  What is an ElectroEncephaloGram (EEG)?
Ani Flevaris, a researcher with the Robertson Cognitive Neuropsychology: Attention Laboratory and volunteer Anja Warkotsch demonstrate EEG.

What is functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI)?
Fenna Krienen and Aaron Koralek from the D'Esposito Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory demonstrate fMRI.

What is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)?
TMS or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation uses very short pulses of magnetic energy to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. Inside the brain, the magnetic pulses produce a very small electric field, about the size of a small coin. The amount of energy you are exposed to is about the same as you need to move you fingers.

Andrea Weinstein, Lab Manager for the Ivry Cognition and Action Lab talks about what it feels like to be a TMS subject

Dr. Julie Duque, a researcher with the Ivry Lab explains the possible side effects of TMS

      Ask A Scientist East Bay

"Ask a Scientist is an informative, entertaining, monthly lecture series, held at local cafes & eateries. Each event features a speaker on a current topic, a short presentation, and the opportunity to ask all those burning questions that have been keeping you up at night. No tests, grades, or pressure…just food, drinks, socializing, and conversation about the universe’s most fascinating mysteries!"

      Wonderfest
"Through public discourse about provocative scientific questions, Wonderfest aspires to challenge unexamined beliefs, stimulate curiosity, promote careful reasoning, and encourage life-long learning. Wonderfest achieves these ends by presenting series of scientific events to the general public. At most of these events, pairs of articulate and accomplished researchers debate compelling questions at the edge of scientific understanding."
